Summonses alert via SMS
The short messaging service (SMS) can now keep you informed of traffic summonses against you.
DAPAT Vista (M) Sdn. Bhd, the mobile applications provider that helps the police with the Rakan COP programme, launched the Saman Alert service yesterday.
Subscribers to this service will receive an SMS informing them of their offence whenever the traffic police issue a summons.
“This system simplifies the process of paying summons and makes it easier for motorists to immediately contact the police if they feel there has been a mistake in the issuance of their traffic summons,” said DAPAT Vista executive vice president Azli Paat.
He said the service was especially useful to companies and businesses as they would be able to keep track of summonses issued against their company vehicles.
“This is a very important feature as it will help companies avoid a situation of unpaid summonses piling up,” he added.
To subscribe to the service type POLIS SAMAN [vehicle number] ON and send to 32728.
To unsubscribe, send the same message with the word OFF instead of ON.
Azli said the service was also available to motorists who frequently travel abroad.
“All they have to do is add their e-mail address after the word ON when they subscribe to the service,” he said.
Azli also said DAPAT Vista was also waiving the 50 sen charge levied on SMSes sent out from Rakan COP to Rakan COP members.
However, he stressed, the waiver only applied to those registered as Rakan COP members.
Azli said from now, Rakan COP members will only pay normal telco charges for SMS sent to the hotline.
